Computer Virus Removal
Do I have a virus? Many times customers bring us computers thinking they have an infection when the unusual behavior is caused by something entirely different. Viruses are so common that we tend to attribute anything functioning incorrectly to a virus. When we receive a computer, which the customer reports having a virus, we begin our repairs by performing a complete hardware diagnostic. Many times we find the cause of the problem with that step and determine that viruses are not even present. If a hardware malfunction is identified, we still run scans to ensure that an infection is not present. After the hardware diagnostic, we contact the customer and discuss repair costs. Of course, hardware repair costs vary with failed component. Removal of viruses typically cost about 2 hours of time at posted rate for machine type. Our in shop rates are $88 for desktops and $108 for laptops. We never proceed with any repairs without customer approval.
Once infection is confirmed, we use the same “clean up” procedure with every repair. Programs that are starting with Windows but not really necessary are removed from the list. Temporary files and caches are cleared then we go after the bad guys. Software used for actual removal is proprietary but when we finish the computer is as clean as a hound’s tooth.
